Poems for Life

By Rosemary J Kind

Carpe Diem

Who knows what their tomorrow holds?
Why take the time to second guess?

So easy letting now slip by,
Taking from it rather less,

Because our sights are firmly fixed
Upon horizons far away,

And not upon the next small step

Forwards. Onwards. Seize today.

School Dinners

Don’t make me eat custard it makes me feel sick,
Spoiling the taste of the nice Spotted Dick.
If the greens on my plate are really so good,
Please eat them yourself; I’m sure that you could.
Chicken Fricassee’s good, I have to admit,
But liver is vile and fruit is the pits.
I’d rather eat sandwiches on chunks of bread,
Than on dried up meals called school dinners be fed.
And as for the line that I join to get in,
I’d rather play hopscotch, a game I can win,
Not jostled and pushed to the end of the queue,
For a dinner I hate, I’ll say “No thank you!”
